Cornwall is the cornerstone of Eastern Ontario, a firm part of its proud history and traditions. In fact, there is a great opportunity to participate in a fun tradition coming soon!
THE MASQUER’AID BALL
Masquerade Balls have been part of Western society since as early as the 14th Century. English, French and Italian courts alike have engaged in this elegant combination of fun, mystery, and whimsy. On Saturday, April 1st (just after April Fool’s day!), you can take part in this enigmatic tradition yourself while contributing to charity!
The Masquer’aid Ball is a benefit for the Candlelighters, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support to youth suffering from cancer and their families. An Ontario institution, the Candlelighters aim to help families in the fight against the cancer by giving them the help, resources, and education they need through difficult times. All proceeds from this event will go to the Candlelighters so that they can continue to do their good work.
What’s more, this will be a great time. There will a formal dance, and a cocktail hour complete with charcuterie provided by local vendors. Enjoy a sumptuous filet mignon dinner, and then take part in both silent and live actions for vacation packages, luxury goods, upscale restaurant vouchers and more! Dress your best and don’t worry – we will provide the masks.
If you are interested in attending, write an email firstname.lastname@example.org and let them know you are coming! We’d love to help you have a great time, all while helping the kids.
Complete this magical evening with a stay at the Ramada Inn, Cornwall’s premier luxury hotel. All our rooms come standard with comfortable beds, flat screen TVs, stately desks and complementary high speed internet access. If you want to round out your masquerade weekend in style, try our Executive Hotel Suites for perks like private fireplaces, Whirlpool tubs, walk-in showers and more!
CAR RALLY AND CHICKEN DINNER!
The Chesterville Lion’s Club are hosting their 28th annual car rally and chicken dinner! Come see the breathless excitement and fun of our rally race, and enjoy a BBQ chicken half in a fun and friendly environment on April 1st. This is a blast every year, so be sure to check it out!
Are you ready to pick and grin? Well, on April 7th and 8th the Woodsmoke Bluegrass Jamboree is returining to the NAV Centre in Cornwall.
Whether you’re a longtime fan of bluegrass or not, it is the liveliest of folk traditions. These utterly infectious tunes are an artform for the people, endlessly reinvented and interpreted by beginners and masters alike. Woodsmoke features some of Canada’s most talented players giving incredible performances and taking part in workshops to deliver a rollicking and rousing good time! MC Rick Leben will keep the show going strong so you can lose yourself in the music. Kick up your heels, sing along, and have a grand old time.
INDOOR GARAGE SALE AND BAKE SALE
In a town with as much history as Cornwall, one person’s trash is another’s person’s most cherished treasure! Come take part in a community fundraiser at the Cornwall Pentecostal Church April 22nd! There are sure to be plenty of buried treasures priced to sell. Maybe your Antiques Roadshow find is just around the corner! There will also be a bakesale so you can satisfy your sweet tooth as well as your inner bargain hunter!

Located in the heart of Upper Canada, Cornwall is a cornerstone of Canadian history – and pride! We love this nation, and that means there’s no better place to be for this Canada day than in Cornwall, at Lamoureux Park.
We’ve been celebrating Canada’s 150th anniversary all summer, but it all comes to a head on July 1st. We’re going to pull out all the stops for this one!
Cornwall’s Canada Day celebration takes place at historic Lamoureux Park on the water front – a scenic spot for a family friendly festival if there ever was one! The day kicks off with a singing of the National Anthem at Noon, and then there is a full slate of local performers on stage, all day, for free! Be sure to check out the BC DC dancers, a troupe who are local favourites in Cornwall. The huge variety of song, dance and more will keep you busy all the way until the late evening!
This is an incredible event for kids, too. There is a kids tent with lots of fun activities like bouncy houses, a petting zoo, free face painting and more! Will there be a magic show? Telling you would spoil the mystery (but signs point to yes!).
Then, at 10:00 PM, just when you’re tuckered out from a full day of celebrations, fireworks will light up the night sky. This is the best fireworks show of the year, and we take great pride in putting on a memorable display for Canada’s birthday! Imagine all these shining lights in the sky, while you and your family huddle cozily together, reflecting on how wonderful it is to live in a place like Canada.
And then, if you’re visiting, you can come stay at the Ramada Cornwall. We’re proud to offer you incredible service for reasonable prices. Book your stay today for the perfect end to an amazing Canada Day!
Coming to Cornwall this summer? Good choice – there’s so much to do for you and all your family! Here are some of our favourite ways to beat the summer heat here in town.

Don’t miss out on this great time.
The fitness craze of the 21st Century is sweeping Cornwall, and it’s a metric TONNE of fun. Every Monday this summer at the Benson Centre in Cornwall, you can show up and drum up your ideal body! While most aerobics classes feature music, Drums Alive is unique in that you get fit by MAKING music! Combining drumming with fitness, Drums Alive puts sticks in your hand and teaches you how to work out by keeping the beat in a variety of positions that will make you sweat while keeping you under the influence of an intoxicating rhythm. It’s an absolute blast, and you won’t believe how good it makes you feel! I can’t recommend it enough. Pack your gym back and put on your dancing shoes, because this is the best of both worlds.

THE BEST POUTINES ANYWHERE!
If there is any dish that can be recognized as a truly Canadian food, poutine is probably it, and Cornwall has more than its fair share of truly memorable poutines! For instance, check out the winner’s of this year’s La Poutine Week’s People’s Choice awards! Enjoy La Canadienne from Chez Liz with its smoky bacon, maple syrup and sautéed mushrooms, or for something truly fusion try the “Winner winner Chinese dinner” poutine from Chef in a Bun. Whether you’re staying in Cornwall for a few nights, or just passing through, these are the restaurants that you’ll want to visit time and time again!
THUM’S KITCHEN THAI CUISINE
A local favourite, Thum’s Kitchen is a bastion of Thai food and culture in Cornwall. Practicing the famous “five flavours” of Thai cuisine, every dish at Thum’s features sweet, salty, bitter, spicy and sour in perfect balance! Their lunch menu is outstanding for a quick bite, but we recommend going for dinner to get the full menu. We can’t get enough of the Gai Ta Krai, or chicken marinated in lemongrass and deep fried and served with dipping sauce, as well as the Gang Ped Pedyang, or curried duck breast with sweet basil. Yum!
Chef Paolo Spagnolo has been creating and perfecting the best in Italian food for over 35 years, and we’re lucky to have him in Cornwall at his restaurant, Casa Paolo. Featuring upscale cuisine in a comfortable, low-pressure atmosphere (and for a reasonable cost!), this is the perfect spot for couples who want a relaxed date and fantastic food. We recommend the lasagna casereccia al forno for the ultimate in gourmet comfort food!
SHEEP’S HEAD BISTRO
A relatively new addition to the Cornwall culinary scene, Sheep’s Head Bistro is a fantastic gastropub style dining experience. Head ched Lewis Meehan hails from Halifax Nova Scotia. If you’re looking for warm, casual dining with a flair for classic food with inventive twists, look no further. I’m pretty sure I would kill, and be killed, for their old cheddar, tomato and scallion chicken queso dip.
Whatever your tastes, Cornwall has a spot for you. And if you’re staying overnight, stay at the Ramada Cornwall. Our complimentary hot breakfast makes planning your meals a cinch, and if you’re looking for more recommendations like these, just ask our friendly staff!
